What Are The Advantages Of SaaS Solutions

By Elinor Tran

Software as a service commonly referred to as SaaS is a methodology used in deploying software nowadays. In this methodology applications are hosted online by their providers and users access them from there. Many software providers have taken up this method. Instead of selling software as a package SaaS solutions require that they only sell the rights to access it online.

For a system to be considered as a solution of this kind it must have some characteristics. One is access methodology. The system must be based on a network and managed from a central place. It is a requirement that users connect to it through the internet by using unique profiles. Many users can access the system simultaneously but they get different experiences.

There are many advantages of this model. To start with it is affordable. This is because the cost of buying software up front is no longer there. Instead subscriptions are paid for on a monthly basis. When a user subscribes to the system he is entitled to upgrades, maintenance and customer support.

Time taken to deploy the system is significantly reduced. This is because all you need is a web browser and internet access. It took months for traditional software to be deployed. You do not need any infrastructure either. IT structures that support the system are dealt with by the provider. The provider is also responsible for maintenance and upgrading of the operating system version.

Another benefit is seamless upgrades. The user does not need to download any patches. Instead all the updates and upgrades for the system are done by the vendor.

There is a guarantee of certain levels of service in saas solutions. Availability is guaranteed 99% of the time failure to which the vendor should pay. This was something unheard of with traditional software. The fact that the user does not have to work from any office is another benefit. Back ups are also done for you by the provider.
