Why Laptop Chargers Are So Important

By Mark Mesa

As with all delicate and vital instruments, you must be good to your laptop and its charger. If you treat them well, they will serve you for a long while. Think of the laptop charger as an umbilical cord. If it works well, then your laptop will be healthy and strong. A fully charged computer battery will be available whenever you need to do some work or connect with the world at your leisure.

You have two ways to provide power for most laptop computers: a battery and a cord that connects it to an outside electrical source.

Keeping the laptop plugged into the electrical source will keep it running, when unplugged and running on battery, the battery will begin to run down. This can happen rather fast on an older model, and if the computer is in use, a good battery will run for perhaps a few hours. Most laptops have a light that will warn you when you are running on the battery.

If the battery is removed from the battery, a battery charger cannot store power in it; but the charger can still operate your laptop.

The usual design of a laptop charger has two parts. One cord connects the laptop to a power box. A second cord connects the power box to an outside electrical source, such as a wall outlet. There are signal lights that show whether the laptop charger has been attached correctly and is functioning properly. The computer screen usually shows the charge level of a battery and whether it is connected to an outside power source. If the laptop is hooked up to a wall outlet and the battery is inside the machine, then this will extend the battery life as well.

If you charger happens to fall and break or fries out during use (due to high voltage fluctuation), you must need a back up immediately, as without the same you cannot recharge your battery, which will drain out with in hours of using the laptop. Once a computer shuts down like this there is nothing you can do to revive it, except with a laptop charger. Sometimes, due to defect in the cord or the charger pack the battery charger suddenly stops functioning.

Unless you have another laptop that is the same, it is best not to use the charger from one machine to another. You may have to contact the company to see if they have replacement chargers. Or you may want to do an online search for one that is the same brand and model as you laptop.

Think ahead. If your laptop is frequently used, then you ought to have a second electrical charger with you. There is nothing worse than having to halt a project, homework, or social interaction because you have run out of juice. It may be only a small investment because there are low-priced options available. In an emergency, it will be worth every penny to be able to plug a fresh cord into your laptop.
